SNL-Alum & Comedy Star Kevin Nealon to Host EEA’s 50th Anniversary Gala: Top Awards Increased to 36

Kevin Nealon, the renowned comedic television and movie actor, will host next year’s Engineering Excellence Awards Gala to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ACEC’s signature awards program.

Nealon was a long-time Saturday Night Live cast member (1986-1995), known for many hilarious characters including; 'The Subliminal Man,' and 'Hans and Franz,' and for anchoring SNL's 'Weekend Update.' He made his film debut in the romantic comedy, 'Roxanne,' with Steve Martin, and has starred in over two dozen movies including 'Happy Gilmore' and 'The Wedding Singer,' both with Adam Sandler; 'Anger Management' with Jack Nicholson; 'Daddy Day Care' with Eddie Murphy; and most recently, 'Blended,' with Drew Barrymore.

EEA’s 50th anniversary celebration will also include an increase in the number of Grand Awards presented—from eight to 16, and Honor Awards—from 16 to 20. The Gala will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in Washington, D.C. during the ACEC Annual Convention.

Since 1967, U.S. engineering firms have entered their most innovative projects and studies in ACEC's EEA program—"the Academy Awards of the engineering industry"—which honors the year's most outstanding engineering accomplishments. Projects that are winners at state level EEA competitions are eligible for ACEC's national EEA competition.

Each year a distinguished panel of 25-30 judges representing a cross section of industry, government, academia and media, all assemble for three days to rank submissions on engineering excellence. The panel in 2017 will select 36 top award winners—20 Honor Awards and 16 Grand Awards—with one Grand Conceptor Award winner chosen from the 16 Grand Awards as the year’s most outstanding engineering achievement.
